Hamburg-Germany: The Sultanate of Oman has secured the right to host the 23rd World Wind Energy Conference (WWEC 2027), marking a significant milestone that reflects the country’s progress in the renewable energy sector and supports its efforts to expand wind energy projects and diversify its energy mix. The conference will be hosted by Nama Power and Water Procurement Company (PWP) under the patronage of the Ministry of Energy and Minerals (MEM) and in cooperation with the World Wind Energy Association (WWEA).

The event will showcase the development of wind energy projects and related investment opportunities in Oman, bringing together policymakers, industry leaders, investors, developers, researchers, technology providers, and renewable energy experts from around the world to discuss the future of wind energy, highlight projects, technologies and investment opportunities, and strengthen international cooperation and knowledge exchange in the sector.

His Excellency Mohsin bin Hamad Al Hadhrami, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Energy and Minerals, said:

“We welcome the selection of the Sultanate of Oman as the host of the World Wind Energy Conference 2027, a milestone that reflects the international community’s confidence in Oman’s vision and the significant progress it has achieved in developing its renewable energy sector. In line with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040, the Ministry of Energy and Minerals is working to develop a more diversified and resilient energy mix, strengthen energy security, and create a supportive regulatory and investment environment for the expansion of renewable energy projects.

Oman’s project roadmap through 2032 includes approximately 19 solar and wind energy projects, comprising 13 solar power projects and 6 wind power projects. The total planned wind energy capacity exceeds 4,000 MW, reflecting the scale of expansion targeted in the coming years.”

He added:“This growth is not limited to adding new electricity generation capacity. It also extends to building a comprehensive ecosystem that attracts investment and technology, develops value chains and local content, enhances infrastructure readiness, and strengthens national capabilities and talent. These efforts will increase the economic value of the energy sector while supporting its competitiveness and long-term sustainability.Hosting the conference will also provide a global platform for knowledge exchange, technology transfer, innovation, and the development of partnerships that contribute to accelerating the growth of wind and renewable energy in the Sultanate of Oman.”

Her Excellency Maitha bint Saif Al Mahrouqi, Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to the Federal Republic of Germany, stated:

“We highly value the confidence placed in the Sultanate of Oman by the World Wind Energy Association and its partners in selecting Oman to host the 23rd World Wind Energy Conference in 2027. This decision reinforces Oman’s position as a trusted partner for investment and international cooperation, supported by a longstanding approach based on stability, dialogue, and bridge-building, as well as a transparent regulatory framework that enables renewable energy projects to progress efficiently from planning to generation.

Oman possesses promising wind energy resources, particularly in its southern governorates, alongside large-scale solar energy developments that support the creation of a diversified and resilient energy mix while strengthening national competitiveness and energy security. We firmly believe that energy transformation requires international cooperation, knowledge exchange, and cross-border partnerships. Oman’s strategic location enables it to serve as a bridge between the Gulf region, East Africa, South Asia, and Europe, connecting capital with opportunity and innovation with implementation.”

Ahmed bin Salim Al Abri, Chief Executive Officer of Nama Power and Water Procurement Company, the hosting entity of the conference said:

“Oman’s successful bid to host the World Wind Energy Conference 2027 represents international recognition of the country’s progress in renewable energy and the achievements made under Oman Vision 2040 and its net-zero ambitions.

Nama Power and Water Procurement Company prepared Oman’s hosting bid under the supervision of the Ministry of Energy and Minerals. This achievement is founded on Oman’s strategic location, attractive investment environment, advanced infrastructure, and strong wind energy resource potential, all of which position the Sultanate of Oman as a regional hub for wind energy development and broader energy transition initiatives.

In particular, the governorates of Dhofar and Al Wusta stand out as promising locations for utility-scale wind energy projects, offering significant opportunities for international developers, technology providers, and investors. The conference will provide a global platform to showcase these advantages, strengthen international collaboration, and accelerate the deployment of wind and renewable energy projects in support of energy transition goals at both national and global levels.”
